Finding Government Information Using TexShare
TexShare has a specific database to search for Military and Government information, called the Military and Government Collection. This database has full text articles going back to 1990.
This pathfinder will show you how to use this database to search for governmental information and provide links to other useful resources.
How to Find Information on Hot Topics
Military and Government Collection provides transcripts of speeches by political leaders and commentary by policy researchers. The database also has articles about political issues from leading newspapers and magazines. You can search the database to learn more about and issue or to see what a specific politician thinks about it.
Examples:
Q: What is tort reform?
A: Using the field code TI for Title, type tort reform.
Q: Do you know what Senator John Cornyn's views on immigration reform are?
A: Under author search for Cornyn, John and under default fields search for immigration.
Additional Feature
Searches can be limited to certain time periods, which is useful when you only want the most current information on an ongoing issue. Although all results are in full text format, you may choose to view them as PDF files if you prefer.
Military Information
The Military Government Collection, as its name implies, also has a great deal of resources available on the United States Military. This includes pamphlets on individual weapons used by the different branches of the Armed Forces. To search for information in various format types, use the same procedures as above, choosing your desired Publication Type from the bottom of the search options screen.
