Economia y Negocios

About this Database

Economia y Negocios contains over 60,000 articles on business and economics in Spain and Latin America. The database includes records from 1980 to the present day and is updated regularly. With indexes in Spanish and English it is ideal for Spanish or English speakers who are interested in Hispanic business.


Searching the Database

There are three ways to search this database:

  1. Basic Search: For casual information seeking. e.g. articles about the wine business
  2. Advanced Search: For more in depth information seeking. e.g. comparison of clothing industry staff models in Central America
  3. Visual Search: For a broad topic search with visual map of results

Basic Search

You want to find articles about wine in Chile in 2005

  1. Find Field: Enter your search terms in English or Spanish. E.g. wine or vino
  2. You can use BOOLEAN operators to narrow or expand your search.
  3. Refine Search: Fill in the date range you wish to search

*TIP*English words will find English and Spanish articles and vice versa.

Advanced Search

You want to find articles by S.Otero about maquiladoras not in Central America

  1. Find Field: Enter your search terms in separate find boxes
  2. Change the BOOLEAN operators on the left of each search box
  3. Change the field to narrow your search e.g. Choose author for articles by S Otero

*TIP*Type in the author as Last Name, First Name.

 

Visual Search

You want an idea of topics in a broad subject area e.g. Marketing

  1. Find Field: Enter your search terms
  2. In the results page, you will see several multicolored circles, which represent different topics in the broad subject area.
  3. Smaller circles within the larger ones represent further categories in the topic. You can click on any circle to look at the contents. Squares in the larger circles represent articles. Click on the square to open the article in the same browser window.
  4. There are Zoom keys at the side and top of the screen. Zoom in to narrow your search and zoom out to broaden your search

*Tip*To search by subject, click on the Index under each search tab. You can browse the subject thesaurus that Economia y Negocios uses to make your search more precise.
