The Hooks to Holdings feature on the Books in Print site allows
you to check records against your local z39.50 compliant database.
Hooks to Holdings profiles can be set up by the administrator in
the Detailed Account Information portion of the My Account area.
A brief overview of the process is listed below. Click on the MY
ACCOUNT button on the top navigation bar. Select the Detailed Account
Information link and log in using the license administrator user
name and password. A new page will display. Select the option to
"create or modify your Z39.50 Hooks to Holdings Profile". Complete
the profile page and select SAVE . For consortium accounts with
multiple catalogs, select the ADD PROFILE button to create additional
profiles. Once a profile is saved, users can select SEARCH MY LIBRARY'S
CATALOG on the Search Results page, Title Details area, and LISTS
area to launch a search of their catalog.
EBSCO:
http://www.epnet.com/eptech/admin3/demo/collct.htm
This URL explains how to create collections, attach the collection
to profiles, change YES and NO messages, and add the collection
as limiter and an authority file. Also collections can be created
by a list of the print magazine titles that they subscrible to through
EBSCO Subscription Services which is called an Invoice On Diskette.
The site just needs to contact their EBSCO Sales Representative
and then the sales rep will sent the request to ESS and then ESS
will send the IOD to EBSCO Publishing Tech Support to load. This
process takes about a month or two but the site does not need to
provide us with a collection list nor do they need to manually add
the magazines one by one in EBSCOadmin.
CrossRef is a new feature provided by EBSCOhost that provides additional
linking to articles through individual publishers. CrossRef provides
linking to the publishers' articles using DOI (Digital Object Indentifier)
technology. CrossRef currently can provide access to 3 million articles
from 3,988 journals through 71 publishers. CrossRef adds 1,827 unique
titles.
To take advantage of this free service, you must do the following:
- Contact the publishers and setup accounts with them http://www.crossref.org/members.htm.
The publishers are also responsible to provide you with authentication
to retrieve their articles.
*If you already have current accounts setup for e journals, check
to see if your vendor is on the CrossRef member list.
- A CrossRef collection can then be created in EBSCOadmin. The
publishers should provide you with a list of journals (including
ISSN numbers) that you have access to. Send this list of ISSN
numbers to EBSCO Publishing Tech Support 800-758-5995 or eptech@epnet.com
requesting to setup a CrossRef collection. Tech Support will create
your CrossRef collection and attach it to your profiles.
- CrossRef links will then appear in EBSCOhost for articles available
from the applicable publisher's site.
OCLC First Search:
Please explain how the "links to holdings" feature of your system
works, including instructions for enabling it (if applicable). FirstSearch
allows institutions with web-based local automated systems to link
from records in FirstSearch to their local holdings information.
Libraries may include the URL of their web-based OPAC in the FirstSearch
administrative module. FirstSearch will link to the OPAC holdings
and shelf status.FirstSearch also enables libraries to limit the
results of a search to only items held in the local library. In
addition, FirstSearch has links from many databases to local holdings
on WorldCat based on ISSN. If a library is an OCLC cataloging member,
a serials union list participant, or batch loader of bibliographic
records to OCLC, FirstSearch indicates which titles the library
has cataloged or union listed on OCLC by linking to all records
that contain the matching ISSN. FirstSearch allows customizable
holdings display as an option for the system administrator. Display
options include:
- group holdings
- regional holdings
- default (primarily state holdings)
- no holdings
