1. Is the HeritageQuest pledge drive and our
annual fee the same thing?
A. No. Your annual database fee supports
the TexShare
core database collection.
Your pledge will go toward the purchase of the HeritageQuest
database.
You must be a member of TexShare to participate in the
HeritageQuest pledge drive.
You must be current in your TexShare fees in order to
participate in the pledge drive.
2. Will this pledge insure my library’s
continued access to HeritageQuest?
A. Your contribution will cover the
cost of a one-year subscription to Heritage Quest. Because
of your generosity last year we could purchase a 13 month
subscription last year. The subscription year begins on
August 1,2005 and lasts until June 30, 2006. You will
be asked to renew your pledge for the 2006-2007 and subsequent
subscription years in order to have ongoing access to
the database.
3. How do I determine the appropriate pledge
level for my library?
A. You should refer to the recommended
pledge amounts provided
B. We suggest you pledge at the amount
appropriate to the population numbers assigned to your
library in the annual
public library report (for public libraries) or from
the THECB
website for (academic libraries).
4. The pledge amount for my library seem a little
high.
A. This is excellent pricing for the
HeritageQuest database. Your recommended pledge is lower
than the amount libraries would be charged if subscribing
to that database on their own. And remember, not only
are you pledging to renew our HeritageQuest subscription
but, you are pledging to renew access to the Sanborn Maps.
While we hope that you are able to pledge at the recommended
level, if your library cannot meet the recommended pledge
amount, we will accept a pledge for whatever amount you
are able to afford.
5. Are donations made to the pledge drive tax
deductible?
A. Please check with your accountant
or tax lawyer to determine this, TSLAC will not issue
receipts reflecting the pledge as a tax donation.
6. Can we use our Loan
Star Grant money to pay for this pledge for HeritageQuest?
A. Yes; you can. You will need to submit
a program revision form citing the dollar amount of the
pledge and how the change will affect the Plan of Action.
The form is on the Loan
Star Libraries section of the Texas State Library
Web site, and can be faxed to Wendy
Clark at fax# 512-463-8800.
7. Can we make the pledge now and pay for it
out of our next year's grant?
A. No. Funds are needed by July 1, 2005.
8. Can we use our system collection development
allocation to make the requested pledge to retain HeritageQuest
if the funds are released from my Regional Library System
by July 1st?
A. Before making a pledge with these
anticipated funds please check with your System Office
to make sure the funds have been released AND
ARE AVAILABLE FOR THIS PURPOSE.
9. My library didn't commit to a pledge during
the campaign to retain HeritageQuest and Digital Sanborn
Maps. Will I still have access to either database afterJuly
1, 2005?
A. Yes. The whole goal of the pledge drive is to raise
enough money to renew our subscription to HeritageQuest
(which will also renew Digital Sanbon Maps) and by doing
so retain statewide access for all TexShare libraries.
A successful pledge drive for HeritageQuest will mean
that all TexShare member libraries, whether they pledged
or not, will have continuing access to HeritageQuest for
the period 7/1/05-7/31/06.
