LIMITATIONS: Due to so many unreturned books, the Brownwood
Public Library does reserve the right to place limits on the
number of books checked out, for the protection of the library.
There is a limit of four books on a given subject (to keep
from losing everything on a given subject if the books aren't
returned), and a limit on ten children's books per card (more
than this and parents have problems keeping up with the books).
These rules can be, and are, waived at the discretion of library
staff, on a case-by-case basis. Rules generally are not waived
for patrons without a good, established checkout record though.Books
with reserves, especially lengthy reserve lists, cannot be
renewed. Otherwise, they can be renewed almost indefinitely.
The library does reserve the right to limit renewals though,
as some patrons have renewed a lost book indefinitely to avoid
paying late fines. Generally speaking though, patrons can
renew an item as many times as they wish provided nobody is
waiting for the item. Those patrons with lost books, or large
unpaid fines are not eligible to check out more materials
until patrons' records are cleared. This too can be waived
at the discretion of staff. The only other restriction is that
minors are not allowed to access the Internet until a parent
comes in and signs a permission form. These rules have been
implemented not to give patrons a hard time, but to attempt
to get mitigate serious patron delinquencies. We will work
with anybody who makes a good-faith effort to indemnify their
arrears with the library.Texshare borrowers are allowed to
check out the same items that a local patron would be.
ELIGIBILITY: Texshare borrowers are allowed to apply for
borrowing privileges at the Brownwood Public Library as any
other patron would be, subject to Texshare guidelines and
Brownwood Public Library guidelines.Identification is required
so that library staff may ascertain the identity of our patrons.
A valid Texas driver's license constitutes identification
for the purposes of the library. Other forms of identification
will be accepted, subject to the discretion of the director
and his staff.
CARD AVAILABILITY: Borrowing privileges for Texshare borrowers
are the same as for other patrons. Renewal is once a year
to attempt to ensure that the library can contact patrons
should materials become delinquent.
HOURS: The library is open for business as follows: Sunday:
Closed Monday: 0900-1800 Tuesday: 0900-2000 Wednesday: 0900-1800
Thursday: 0900-2000 Friday: 0900-1800 Saturday: 0900-1300
RENEWAL OF MATERIALS: The library is very flexible regarding
renewals on eligible materials. Renewals may be done via phone,
fax, email, in person, etc.
RETURNS: Items can either be returned directly to the library
during normal business hours, placed in the book drop after
hours, and even mailed items are accepted. The library's concern
is that items be returned in good condition.
MAIL RETURN:
Brownwood Public Library 600 Carnegie Blvd Brownwood,
TX 76801
OVERDUES: The library attempts to call patrons. If this doesn't
work, or if the patron fails to return delinquent items, then
a letter is sent out.
RECALLS: The Library reserves the right to recall any item,
at any time, for any reason. In practice, this isn't done,
and would only be done under exceptional circumstances. As
stated above, items that have been placed on hold by other
patrons are not eligible for renewal.
NON-CIRCULATING ITEMS: These items do not normally circulate.
This rule can be waived at the sole discretion of the director
for overnight use. Said items must be returned the following
morning, as other patrons may want them.
LOAN POLICIES: The loan period is two weeks
for everybody.
FINES: A fine of ten cents a day will be
assessed for all overdue items. Fines will be waived only
at the discretion of the director and staff, and under exceptional
circumstances. As the Brownwood Public Library is a nonprofit
corporation, all fines collected will be used solely for the
improvement of the library.
LOST ITEMS:
A library item is considered lost if the patron
informs us that the item cannot be found, or if the item is
over thirty days late without notification. The library reserves
the right to pursue legal remedies to obtain indemnification.

to the library personally, or sent to: Brownwood Public Library,
