RESTRICTIONS/LIMITATIONS: Usage is restricted
to patrons who are at least 18 years old, since we require
parents to sign for their child's card. Patron's permanent
address must be in Texas. Material limitations: 3 books or
periodicals, e.g. fiction, non-fiction, large print, etc.;
no audiovisual or non-book materials, best sellers or high
use items may be checked out at this time. Interlibrary loan
is not offered on TexShare cards. Privileges are suspended
if any fines or overdue charges are incurred at this or any
library participating in the TexShare Card Program.
ELIGIBILITY: Completion of Hughes Public
Library card application. Must provide photo ID (preferably
Texas driver's license or TDPS ID); current TexShare card
from home library; active telephone number, both home &
temporary; proof of both a valid physical address and a valid
mailing address, both home & temporary. Both the TexShare
card and photo ID must be presented to check out materials.
CHECK-OUT CARD AVAILABILITY: Privileges
will only be approved or cards issued on Monday, 1:30 to 8:30
p.m. and Tuesday – Friday, 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
Cards will expire one month from the date a Hughes Public
Library borrower's card is issued or the same date as the
borrower's TexShare card expires, whichever is earliest. Card
may be renewed in one month increments if the TexShare card
is still valid and there have been no problems. Borrowing
privileges will be canceled if fines or fees are incurred
at this or any library participating in the TexShare Card
Program.
HOURS OF OPERATION:
Monday, 1:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.;
Tuesday-Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
RENEWALS: No renewals
RETURNS: Only Hughes Public Library materials
may be returned at the library. Materials may be returned
in the night book drop, at the circulation desk, or by first
class mail (MUST BE CERTIFIED AND INSURED in order to be traceable).
Items returned by mail will be checked in as soon as possible
upon receipt at the circulation desk, and the borrower will
be responsible for any fines associated with mail/delivery/distribution
delays.

OVERDUE REMINDERS: Overdue notices are mailed
after item has been overdue for one week. Follow-up notices
are mailed periodically after that time.
RECALLS: Recall notifications are by telephone.
NON-CIRCULATING ITEMS: Only books from the
circulating collections will be loaned at this time. All other
items are non-circulating.
LOAN POLICIES: Three weeks, unless special
restrictions are attached to an individual item.
FINES AND FEES: Fines for books or periodicals,
e.g. fiction, non-fiction, large print, etc. are 10 cents
per day. Damage to materials shall be determined on a case
by case basis; however, items too badly damaged to meet circulation
standards shall be assessed full replacement charges replacement
price plus $5.00 non-refundable processing fee per item. Additional
fees may be charged for lost barcodes and borrower's cards,
etc.
LOST ITEMS: An item is considered lost when
the final overdue notice/bill is mailed. This is usually six
weeks after the due date. If materials are lost or damaged,
the borrower will be charged the price of the item plus a
$5.00 non refundable processing fee. Borrower will be held
responsible for court costs in addition to the library's fines.
Other charges may also apply if the library incurred special
costs during the overdue/billing process, i.e. placing of
long distance telephone calls, etc.
BILLING INFORMATION: Payment for overdue/lost
charges must be made at the Circulation Desk or by mail. (See
address listed under "Returns"). Please include
TexShare Card # and title of borrowed item if paying by mail.
TexShare card holder agrees to pay any charges incurred as
a result of late return, damage, or loss of materials. Failure
to comply will result in the loss of TexShare library card
privileges and notification of responsible home library. In
addition, the account will be turned over to the Nederland
Police Department as a violation of the City Ordinance.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Additional information
will be provided at time patron applies for TexShare Card
member status.
