TexShare Databases The TexShare Databases:
Authoritative and
Commercial-Free

Search Results You Won't Find on Google or Yahoo

"Free" search engines on the Internet often yield results that are inaccurate, non-authoritative, cluttered with advertising, or inappropriate for children. And they only search the free pages on the Internet.

In contrast, the commercial databases licensed by TexShare offer authoritative, full-text articles from verifiable, subscription-only sources. Every search yields results you won't see anywhere else.

A Research Library on Your Computer

Think of the TexShare Databases as your own virtual library. Its electronic "shelves" are stocked with encyclopedias; reference books; literature; medical information; technical, business, and scientific journals; and even current newspapers and magazines. The TexShare Databases put this virtual library -- current, accurate, and commercial-free -- on the desktops for all Texans.

With materials from many different "publishers," users will find information in various formats and geared to a wide range of audience needs. Each "publisher" offers a unique search engine designed to help users find exactly what they're looking for.

Cost Effective

Medical, business, and professional journals are extremely expensive. And the cost for subscriptions to popular publications can add up fast. Even electronic versions of these are priced beyond the reach of a majority of Texas libraries.

Fortunately, the most cost-effective way to provide Texans with searchable, reliable, and high quality content is through statewide cooperative subscriptions. Licensing databases at the state level enables libraries to serve Texans at a fraction of what local communities would pay if they purchased these resources on their own.

Access for Texans

The TexShare Databases are available as a services exclusively for Texans. License agreements with the vendors do not permit us to provide access to users outside of Texas. Violation of these license agreements could jeopardize ongoing availability of these resources.

A Public Service

The TexShare Databases are offered as a public service from your local public or academic library and by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Contact your local Texas public or academic library for information on becoming an authorized user of the TexShare Databases. Employees at most state agencies also have access to these resources.
